ADULT BEHIND THE WHEEL

Eligibility for Adult Waiver of the DMV Road Test

If you are 18 or older and hold a valid Virginia learner’s permit, you may qualify for an Adult Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) course, which can waive the DMV road skills test and the 60-day holding period for your learner’s permit.

Key Points About Adult Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) Instruction:

• Purpose: The Adult BTW course is designed to ensure you are prepared to drive independently and obtain your license. It is not intended to teach a beginner how to drive.

• DMV Requirements for the Adult Waiver:

1. A valid Virginia learner’s permit.

2. Completion of a Virginia-approved 30 hr driver education course. (8 hr course NOT accepted!!!)

3. Possession of a 30 hr Driver Education Completion Certificate (DEC-1).

4. Completion of 7 periods (50 minutes each) of in-car instruction and observation.

5. An active Service contract for the Adult BTW course.

Completion and Licensing Process: How it works :

Upon successful completion of both the classroom and in-car instruction,

  • Your Virginia Training school MUST mail the DMV copy of your Completion Certificate (Adult Waiver) directly to the DMV on your behalf. You will not need to take the certificate to the DMV!!!

  • if you DO NOT receive your Drivers License in the mail within 20 business days, contact your driver training school.

Important Note for NON US Citizens: if you apply for a Driver Privilege Card which serves as a driver’s license for Virginia residents who are Not US citizens. It allows non-citizens to legally drive without requiring proof of legal presence or U.S. citizenship.

  • you are REQUIRED to take the DMV road test, as this requirement cannot be waived, it will only waive the 60 day holding period.

  • you will receive a letter in the mail informing you to visit DMV for your final road skills test.

The cost for this course

  • $390 Adult behind the wheel

Pick-Up and Drop-Off:

• A $35 one-time fee applies for pick-up and drop-off services for students located within a 10-minute radius of our location.

• Pick-up/drop-off services for students beyond 10 minutes from our location, there will be a pick up fee applied based on time and distance.

• Please note: Certain locations may be excluded from our pick-up/drop-off service.

🚗 DRIVING LESSONS – Learn How to Drive

No experience necessary !!! You must have a valid Learner’s Permit or License to begin !!!

These are PRIVATE, PREMIUM driving lessons offered by one of Virginia’s top-rated driving schools — All Seasons RVA Driving School.

❗ These lessons are for learning or refreshing your driving skills. They do not count toward the Teen Behind-the-Wheel Program or Adult Waiver eligibility.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off

• A one-time fee applies for pick-up and drop-off services.

• We offer pick-up for students located within a 10-minute radius of our location @ no extra cost.

• Please note: Lessons start from the point of pick up or closest area.

• Certain locations may be excluded from our pick-up/drop-off service.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. If a student fails to cancel within this time, the lesson will be forfeited. To continue, the student may choose to pay for an additional lesson.
